About a year ago I did a deal for a young professional graphic designer in Bangkok to design a leaflet for the regular club night that me and my DJ mates run. This guy has become a big part of our success. The club has always been held once a week in boss premises above a bar that’s popular with farang tourists. We used to have some dud nights and it wasn’t because of anything us DJs were doing but we weren’t getting the crowd in. Until our new best friend did a mighty favour and got our first leaflets done for free, well he’d been introduced to us and he liked the Club and he wanted to prove how he could help get the door numbers up.
This was just the start. In a few weeks we noticed bigger take on the door and the owner of the bar is happy to have a poster in a prime place by the door at the foot of the stairs to the gig and also on the outside by the sidewalk. So, wait, posters came later. Firstly we just had leaflets which lasted about four weeks. They were properly printed and the design was exactly what we wanted - they looked like we wanted them to look, straight off. For just the cost of the printing which our guy designed for nothing and delivered to us. We were blown away as people did come up from the downstairs bar and walk upstairs on club night like we’d never known before.

Anyway posters came next and all the branding of our Club was id’d across everything he did for us. Recently we’ve had to get together because we reckon we could run another Club night some place else and double our business. I could give up my day job - been a part-time DJ hankering to do that like forever. And here’s the thing I’m getting to now. This graphic design in Bangkok guy is keen, approachable, gives us very fair prices and he’s always brimming with ways to move forward. That’s how we got our Facebook page which our Clubbers have made widely popular and I reckon we’ll have a website too before long.
